VN Sports 2023

Vietnamese sports have been an emotional roller coaster for spectators in 2022. Vietnam found huge success at the 31st SEA Games, and general sports have been on the rise and a blast for spectators! However, the Vietnamese men’s national football team faced failure at the recent AFF Mitsubishi Electric Cup 2022 when the Vietnamese team lost to Thailand in the finals. Thus, many lessons have been learned. For fans of the Vietnamese football team, this was a huge disappointment after a string of successful events. The football match also marked the end of Park Hang Seo’s contract as coach to the Vietnamese national team. This was particularly jarring when considering how, in past years, Park’s contributions to Vietnamese football have led to unprecedented success. It is very sorrowful to see the amazing coach leaving the Vietnamese national football team.

In 2023, we will see a lot of foreign experts leaving Vietnam, possibly the greatest challenge for Vietnamese sports as many leave the national teams. Coach Park has finished his tenure of serving the Vietnamese men’s football team, and will be replaced by Philippe Troussier until 2026. The Vietnamese national athletics team sees Bulgarian expert Vladimir Simeonov leaving the Vietnamese team. However, many teams only have a domestic coach and are still finding great success.

In terms of the big goals, Vietnamese sports are ready for the new year and new challenges, especially during the 32nd SEA Games hosted in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. This event lasts from May 5th until May 17th 2023. The 12th ASEAN Para Games are in the same venue, which run from the 3rd to the 9th June. This is a huge target for Vietnamese sports in the regional playground, where they aim to reach the podium.

Also this year, the Vietnam women’s national football team will make its debut in the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, which is happening between 20th July and 20th August 2023. There, Vietnam faces the USA, the Netherlands, and Portugal in Group E. After the Women’s World Cup, the 19th Asian Games will be held in Hangzhou, China from 23rd September to 8th October 2023, and the 3rd Asian Para Games will be held from October 22nd until October 28th 2023. However, the 2023 AFC Asian Cup is still postponed due to China’s withdrawal of its hosting bids–hosting rights were instead awarded to Qatar. The Asian cup 2023 in Qatar if it is hosted on the 16th of June until 16th of July would give sports teams a lot of bad effects due to the hot summer in Qatar. The key event is still the 32nd SEA Games, short for Southeast Asian Games, the main sporting competition for 11 Southeast Asian nations.

Here, Vietnam is aiming for third or second position in the medal table. In the youth playground, Vietnam’s U-20 Football team is playing at the AFC U-20 Asian Cup held in Uzbekistan from 1st March until 18th March. Younger players will also be seen as the Vietnamese Men’s U-17 play in the AFC U17 Asian Cup, which will be held in Thailand from 3rd May until 20th of May.

Without foreign coaches, but with plenty of upcoming events, let’s see what Vietnamese sports will be able to achieve this year. Focusing on their key sports will be the key to growth for Vietnamese athletes, because these significant events will help more Vietnamese athletes to learn from their weaknesses and make many new achievements in 2023. Go Vietnam!!! Việt Nam cố lên!
