Last Friday, September 28, the first UNIS invitational volleyball tournament this year began with exciting matches from the girls volleyball teams and ended with a long-fought finals between the boys from HIS and UNIS APAC volleyball teams. The result was neck to neck, as both girls and boys have played extremely well.
The girls volleyball draw had five teams, in which there were three from UNIS (MRISA, APAC and UNIS Blue) and two from local schools (HIS, Lomonoxop High School). The APAC and HIS teams had excellent performances as each managed to win every single game in the round-robins and had to meet each other in the finals. At last, the UNIS APAC girls won with a score of 2-1. The MRISA and UNIS Blue teams did a great job as both received positive comments from coaches. Notable performances were Ruby Davies with her phenomenal serves and excellent net play, as well as Abigail Vallely’s excellent diving on the court and her enthusiasm in the games.
On the other hand, the boys only had four teams in the draw, two from UNIS (APAC, MRISA) and two from local schools (HIS, Lomonoxop High School). All teams showed great skills and athleticism, especially the MRISA squad who showed remarkable team work despite not having a full squad. The local teams HIS and Lomonoxop also displayed great performances with the HIS team going head to head with the UNIS APAC team. In the end, the UNIS APAC boys claimed the championship with a wonderful 3-set gameplay. Notable performances were Scott Mills who did an astounding job at the net and UNIS MRISA team captain Kofi Buahin for his excellent team hussle and leadership.
