Recently, we had the 25th Anniversary, and UNIS celebrates this in a big way. Members of the MSHS Band came to the Sports Center early for preparation, at 10:00am; the Band started the music for people who started to gather at the assembly for seats.
The actual assembly didn’t start until 10:30am, the Masters of Ceremony, Cian Hamer and Phuong Le, made an introduction about “Rapprochement of Cultures”, this year’s UN day theme.
After the speech, all students, parents, and members of the UNIS staff stood up for the Vietnamese National Anthem played by the MSHS Band. Then, the flag bearing commenced, flags of every nation were waved around the room with the song “25 or 6 to 4” played by the band before the names of each country was called out.
Afterwards, members of HS came out to perform for us. The first song that came was “Without You”, followed by “Concert Remix”, “Fancy Footwork” and “International Love”.
To celebrate UNIS’s anniversary, the song “Eighties Flashback” was played by the band to remind us of the beginnings of UN back in the 80’s (1987).
The song was followed by a speech by Jonas Fiebrantz, Grade 10 Forensics student, before a message by our Head of School, Dr. Charles (Chip) Barder, and with the help of the MS Choir, he performed “Stand By Me” and the finale; “Imagine” performed by grade 5.
We received a closing speech from Cian Hamer and Phuong Le. The moment the assembly was over, all students and staff gathered outside to form the word UNIS. Afterwards, all students go to lunch and so ends UN day.
The UN day was considered a huge success and everybody is looking forward to next year’s celebration!
